Moving the lower jaw, the upper and lower jaw, or just the chin is sometimes performed to open the airways of people suffering form sleep apnea. These procedures are normally performed in the hospital and have been described previously

Oral Appliances

A non-surgical treatment approach my include the fabrication and use of an oral appliance that is worn at night time. This appliance will hold the lower jaw forward during sleep keeping the airway space more open to allow easier breathing. The appliance covers both upper and lower teeth, and Dr. Hargan is able to adjust it if futher forward positioning of the lower jaw is determined to be necessary during treatment.
